El Coleaderos is an ongoing photographic series that explores my personal and family connection to traditional Mexican rodeo. Using a combination of the family archive, documentary photography, and alternative photographic processes, I delve into the complex emotions tied to a place that has shaped generations of my family. Growing up, the rodeo was more than just an event—it was a family tradition, one that linked my grandfather to my parents, and eventually to me. These gatherings were filled with both community and entertainment, yet as I distanced myself from this place, the rodeo became a source of reflection.

Throughout the years in working on projects with my grandfather, the idea of returning to the rodeo stirred within me a mix of nostalgia and confusion. This body of work examines the complexities of that relationship, capturing how the rodeo has both united and caused friction within our family. It represents a generational divide, questioning whether I should embrace or move on from a tradition that’s both a source of pride and tension. Through these images, I confront not only the cultural significance of the rodeo, but also the unresolved feelings about our place in it, as a family and as individuals.
